PRESSINFO:

BROKEN EGO is the solo project of musician Chris Ego born in Graz. After contributing his skills to several local bands, he is now focusing entirely on one of his most promising solo project.

With the debut album “Love & Decay In 16 Bit” BROKEN EGO pushes the envelope of Industrial Rock very determined into a new era. Combining early 90ies Electro-Pop with vivid soundscapes and melancholy textures Mastermind Chris Ego polishes the edge sensitive with harsh guitars and sonic layers. The poetic lyrics lead into a trench of desperation, anger and soreness in multiple dimensions.

BIOGRAPHY

Chris Ego was born 1984 in Graz, AT. He enjoyed a good childhood with rebellious break outs and went to a social university. He ever played in bands since he learned to play drums at the age of 13. Later on he taught himself how to play guitar, bass and keyboard. He played mainly drums in Rock, Pop or Metal-bands with merely humble success. He did the music for bands like “Audiobastard” or “The Isäntä” and there was good potential, but some of them went through difficult line-up changes so the bands finally split. Chris always wanted to play outstanding music with a special content. But there was a lack of companions. So he messed around with hands-on programs such as fruity loops, reason and finally Cubase to find his sound and favourite way how to create music alone. The skills have been earned but the content for lyrics were about to join a little later.

Chris Ego began to write the material for BROKEN EGO in the dark fall in 2007. His intentions were to capture the emotive challenges of a tragic end of a relationship and the consecutive change of his personality. What was invented as a kind of self-therapy should not leave the apartment where the music has been created. But the material was just too strong to be left in an isolated room. This is why Chris Ego started to work on the tracks more seriously and went on with the intention to show his scars to a potential audience. He was very much inspired by the music of Trent Reznor with his Nine Inch Nails. The mood and the emotions seemed to match BROKEN EGO and so the music turned out to be more guitar oriented. Synthesizers were used to create either atmosphere or catchy melodies. The Lyrics came together pretty quick and it was clear what Chris Ego wanted to tell with his songs. It was all about finding and losing love. He wants people to live consciously, to take nothing for granted to live love with all the passion one could possibly bring up. The first songs turned out to be a lugubrious and dramatic Industrial-Rock-Opera.

In the forthcoming phases of longing, reflection and self-doubt too many songs evolved to fill just one long player. Chris Ego ever wanted to make a concept album. In this case, it turned out to be a three piece concept art-of-work, which invites to relate to the rollercoaster of his emotional state.

The debut EP “Love & Decay In 16 Bit” was released on 8. 8. 2011 and provides intimate insights of a story of love, that started with a rush of hormones and passion, which was pretty much shaken by destructive events. This EP shows an overview of what occurred and paves the way for a full-length LP that goes further down the spiral. Sampled Drumsounds, sizzling hi-hats, distorted shakers and pounding beats are the foundation of every song. Combining MIDI-technology and industry standard sequencers, Chris Ego achieved to create music that sounds kind of familiar, but modern and original. Harsh Synthesizers and fragile Sounds create drama and add texture; distorted guitars bring up the amount of aggression that came along through the hard times. The mix was done in tight collaboration with Dietz, a man, who is very famous for his technical and musical skills in Austria (he worked with other electronic acts like Sofa Surfers, Kruder & Dorfmeister and such). The mastering by Streaky (London, mixed for big names like Depeche Mode, The Prodigy, Taio Cruz) gave the tracks their final and most notably strong sound. With that EP on board, the damaged ship cruises further on through the wild water.

The first volume of the trilogy, named "The Pursuit Of Happiness", marks the gap between ardent hilarious times and the painful parting. Exposing deep insights and revealing dark sides leaves many interpretations for the open-minded listener. The intimate lyrics are as authentic as the fact that Chris Ego has produced, arranged and performed all music on his own.

“Love & Decay In 16 Bit” pushes the envelope of Industrial Rock very determined into a new era. As one line goes in "Body Of Her": "I Thought I Could Take-Off With You / But Now I’m Afraid Of Coming Down To The Ground", many songs deal with having to let go of.

The path of the first volume leads not just through phases of desperation, self-doubt and anger. Chris Ego also describes conditions of hope and alleviation. In a minute of enlightenment, however, the album peaks in the destruction of the glorified images; yet showing a way out of the gloomy tunnel. But in the end there is still a realization: we all are tied to our experiences. Chris Ego leaves the way out open, claiming that the sun shines only on days of denial. The good things about bad happenings are, that we ripe and sound the depths of human emotions.

In order to offer a proper live-environment Chris Ego was looking for musicians and therefore moved to Vienna. With his new live band he will lead the audience to the depths of his very soul and invites everyone to find one’s inner self. As being a vegan artist, Chris Ego supports animal care projects and the vegan lifestyle. He plays shows at vegan festivals and talks about the global effects of daily consumption whenever someone is listening. Meanwhile Chris Ego is working on the follow-up album with a promising title: "Embracing My Agony".
